Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official said the attack left him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
